Greenwood, also known as the Greenwood District or Black Wall Street, was a thriving African-American community in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the early 20th century. The neighborhood was home to a number of successful Black-owned businesses, including banks, hotels, restaurants, and other establishments.

At its height, Greenwood was one of the most prosperous Black communities in the United States, with a thriving economy and a rich cultural life. It was a hub of Black entrepreneurship, with many successful business owners and professionals calling the area home.

However, in 1921, a violent race riot broke out in Tulsa, and Greenwood was destroyed. Over the course of two days, a white mob attacked and burned down homes and businesses, killing as many as 300 Black people and injuring many more. The exact number of deaths is not known, as many were buried in unmarked graves.

The riot had devastating consequences for the Black community in Tulsa, as many lost their homes, businesses, and lives. The area was never fully rebuilt, and the once-thriving Greenwood District was left in ruins.

Despite the destruction, the legacy of Greenwood and its entrepreneurs and business owners has endured. In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in the history of the area, with efforts to commemorate and honor the achievements of the Black residents of Greenwood. The story of Black Wall Street has become a powerful symbol of Black excellence, resilience, and the devastating impact of systemic racism and violence.
